Mind over Matter

Mind over Matter

Have you ever considered the role of your mind/mental state in your physical health?

The mainstream medical community have very reluctantly now started to accept that all diseases arise from the mind (i.e. psycho-somatic diseases technically speaking). The so-called “alternative” community though has held this belief for a long time and is using it to their advantage for healing since time immemorial.

We all dwell in this machine called the body. Imagine this, you are alive today but as soon as you die your body starts decomposing. So what is it that keeps you fresh as a flower throughout your entire lifetime but sets you decaying as soon as it leaves the body? Your closest loved ones and relatives spend no extra minute to dispose off your body. So then what is it that keeps you going throughout your “lifetime”? The body is just a machine that runs on the energy called soul. What’s the use if a machine that is useless and cannot operate without power?

Now on the flip side, the soul is something no one has seen, touched or felt, right?
Then how do you identify this soul? The answer is through the mind. Mind being the most receptive and sensitive part of a human being is always the first to react. Your mind is what your soul expresses itself through; your like & dislikes, your desires & aversions, your emotions & intellect, your whims & fancies, so on & so forth. The body, your physical form, in turn bears only the manifestations of your mind. Thus the old expression “you are what you think you are” holds water.

Another most important point worth mentioning here is the trust or faith you have in your own body. But that’s for another day (Read related blog: Love, Hope and Faith).

You are responsible for your own body and it is the mind that connects your soul to your body. So if you control your mind you control your body. Remember the soul is eternal and pious but the mind, influenced by external factors, alters the pure (soul) energy and transgresses into a sick body. When we get sick we ideally should trust our body and guide it with the strength of the mind towards recovery. But instead we unknowingly doubt the body’s potential to heal and rely on external help to reverse it. The more mistrust we have in our ability to cope with disease, the more we are pushed farther into the dark realm of sickness.

In a nutshell, we are pretty much responsible for the healthy state of our own minds and thus of our bodies. So next time when the demon of disease threatens you, defeat it with the power of your healthy mind. Believe me you will be surprised with the hidden potential that your underestimated body adorns.
